The Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival is back on over the weekend of 2 - 4 May, and I can’t wait. This will be my third time at the festival, but it will be my first as an official Author™. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get early copies of Made of Steam and Stardust after all, but I will be printing the first chapter that you’ll be able to grab and read (from my sessions and also from the bookshop) as well as a cheeky bookmark or two.
Here are the sessions I’m presenting:
Friday
In the afternoon, I’ll be taking to the main stage for a conversation with students from Margaret River Senior High School and authors A.C. Grayling and Peter Godwin about democracy and human rights. I hosted a similar event last year, and the students were incredible, they gave me hope for the future. I think this will be a really fascinating conversation.
Saturday
There’s two exciting events on Saturday. The first takes me to nearby Busselton, where I’ll be chatting to two amazing fellow fantasy authors, Madeline Te Whiu and Nattie Kate Mason. This one is for young ‘uns under 25, and we’ll be going through all the tips for fantasy writing, including character, worldbuilding, and plot. It’s going to be action-packed but I’m excited to meet more fantasy writers! There’s even a micro-fiction competition for this one, with a cash prize.
From one magical world to another, Saturday afternoon will be back in Margaret River and spent with literary legends Inga Simpson and Chris Flynn. This is another writing workshop, but we’re specifically talking worldbuilding. Personally, I can’t wait to soak in all the tips from Inga and Chris. There’s a competition and cash prize for this one, too!
I can’t wait for another inspiring weekend in beautiful Margaret River and engage in conversations about writing and magic. Will I see you down there?
