Ahhh, a brand new year. I think we’re all a bit past the ‘new year new me’ motto, but I do think the beginning of the year is a great time to reflect on where you are in life, where you’d like to go, and what you’d like to achieve in the next twelve months. I personally get a thrill out of setting goals (a completely seperate activity to actually keeping those goals), and it’s fun to carve out habits you want to establish and learning what sticks by the end of the year.
I can’t believe Manifest has been going for a whole year now, and I’m so excited to continue manifesting my dreams in 2024, sharing the process, and hopefully inspiring you to manifest your own.
Here are a couple of things I’d like to achieve this year, especially as they relate to this newsletter.
Word
I’ve never actually been one to pick a word for the year, but this year I’m giving it a go. I’ve chosen a word that I want to apply to several aspects of my life so I think it works on a few different levels. That word for 2024 is:
I want to find the magic in most things this year - through nature, work, relationships, experiences - and of course I want to literally create magic in the stories I write.
I’m still on a mission to decrease my anxiety levels, and to do that I’m trying to practice gratitude, mindfulness, and a positive mindset. By actively searching for a spark of magic in the little, everyday things, I’m hoping I can start to achieve that.
Goals
Publish a serial on Manifest - a fantasy novella with small installments posted weekly
Read 100 books (including at least 1 non-fiction a month)
Live peacefully - I almost used the word ‘sustainably’ (which is still an eventual goal), but this also encompasses spending less time on social media and my phone in general, meditating more, rethinking where my clothes come from, etc
Write, write, write. Short stories, serials, novels, editing, submitting… I’m making writing the priority this year
These are the kinds of topics I’ll be sharing in this newsletter as the year unfolds, as well as more reviews of Australian YA books, event and festival wrap-ups, my writing processes, and more! I’m so excited to dive into 2024 with joy and inspiration.
Do you set goals every January? What are some creative activities you’d like to achieve this year?
Great stuff! My word of the year is joy for similar reasons. I want to stop and enjoy the happy moments when they come!
I’m here for all of this especially living peacefully ✌️❤️
