In 2023 NaNo helped me rewrite a (dreadful) manuscript I'd written 15+ years ago. I got the 50,000 words down, and in subsequent years have produced a story I love to bits. Definitely wouldn't have felt compelled to get it done in a month without NaNo, it's just such a shame it fizzled out the way it did.
Aww I love this story, Maggie, thanks for sharing! I definitely have a softer spot for my NaNo novels, I think because we get so obsessed and think about them so intensely haha. Such a shame, but I know the community will continue!
I found out about NaNo roughly around 2017ish when I started getting into writing just as a hobby, but I didn't get very far with any projects ahaha.
But I didn’t know there was a community around it. It'd probably explain why I didn't get that far, since it was just regular writing but with a more strict word count/deadline. Ahhh it sucks I didn't know about the community, I would've done a lot better surrounded by others doing Nano as well.
It is SO hard to finish though! It’s a massive undertaking. But yeah having other people doing it too was very motivation and helpful! Lucky we’ve got a writing community of our own 😉
I wrote so many ‘novels’ using Nanowrimo! Hopefully the lessons we learned doing this will stay with us.
I think they definitely will. For me it has for sure!
